The Metro-Hudson League, designed as it is to provide debate opportunities to younger students, is an important part of our overall high school debate program in the northeast. Directors are Kurt Shelton of the Newark School District, Jon Cruz of the Bronx High School of Science, Sheryl Kaczmarek of Newburgh Free Academy and Jim Menick of Hendrick Hudson. We offer novice and JV divisions of Lincoln-Douglas, Policy, and PF.
Each tournament has three or four rounds (depending on starting time); four is the goal, including a short lunch break for everyone. Awards usually start at around 6:30.
Note also the news feed (to the right), containing articles of interest to LD and PF debaters (and coaches). This is updated almost daily.
The Metro-Hudson League is open to any school interested in debate. Our schools range from New Jersey to Massachusetts; the only requirement of membership is that the Hudson River be within a 6-hour radius of your school, and we'll waive that if you're really interested! If you haven't been a part of the MHL lately, we urge you to come back. If you've never been a part, why not join up? And if you can host one of the open weekends (or even one of the "taken" weekends), please let us know. We want as many schools as possible to compete, and we're happy to take the tournament to where the debaters are. If you're new to debate, come visit us or drop a line at mhldebate@gmail.com.
