2011 Tentative Agenda

Online pre-registration at tabroom.com through 9/29. Walk-ins gracefully accepted the day of the event, but do pre-register if at all possible.

 

8:30-9:00 Registration: Auditorium sign in. Distribute final schedules and locations.

 

9:00-9:15 Opening assembly in auditorium

 

9:30-10:45 Module 1

 

LD Novice –

Basic LD mechanics: Includes the parts of a round, what happens at tournaments, elementary case writing (Moderators will bring some case outlines including defs, v, c, observations, cont + subs)

 

LD JV –

Briefing/discussion of Sept-Oct

 

LD Varsity –

Varsity program is for team leaders.

ÒArchitects of the futureÓ Goal for seniors will be to create modest novice curriculum through November

How to teach novices in general, plus how to teach them with an eye on ModNov

 

Policy Novice and Policy JV –

PF –

Mechanics: How to approach a topic, research, case writing, working with a partner, cross-ex, rebuttals, what does it take to win, reading the judges

 

Parents –

Our goal with parents is to expose them to what might happen when they attend a tournament. WeÕll start them with PF, as that is their most likely judging assignment.

LD Novice –

Deep background on ModNov: What is a democracy, what is law, what is change in that context. 5 Essential Ideas—Social Contract, Morality, Rights, Justice, Human Worth—and how they apply to ModNov

 

LD JV –

Advanced Argument Types -- How to run types of arguments, how to deal with various arguments on this topic, e.g. CRT, counterplans

 

LD Varsity

Continue Process. Brainstorm ModNov topic positions understandable by novices.

 

Policy Novice & JV –

Theoretical issues: counterplan theories

 

PF / Parents –

Demo round of PF

 

Coaches –

Mechanics of running a team: deadlines, community etiquette,  attire, how to recruit, how to give topic analysis, explanation of the different events

Brainstorming ModNov: What are some large scale reasons to affirm and debate, just Q & A on the round, with backup (structural, more on value, criterion)

 

LD JV –

Discussion of demo round, with backup material on drills if time allows

Wrap up Novice training ideas
